Description

Alex's DBZ RPG 5 opened in June 2006 and is a play-by-post roleplaying game created by Penguin Run Games loosely based in the universe of the Dragonball Z anime. Members may take the role of one of the many characters from the show, or create custom characters, in a bid to increase their power levels and become the strongest fighter. You can cooperate with members through official sagas and quests or compete against them in spars and battles. The game itself is reliant on heavy writing by the players and it takes a certain level of dedication to play such an intricate game. Often hailed as the father of the modern online DBZ RPG, Alex's continues to evolve through the addition of monthly patches which expand current content as well as introduce brand new features.

History

Alex's DBZ RPG Version 1.0 was born in June 2000. Its creator, known only as Alex, was discouraged over the shutdown of an RPG entitled Alpha Kogecki and decided to make his own site. Brian, the co-founder of Penguin Run Games, joined the mix and ADBZRPG immediately began to flourish. Soon another roleplaying game, Skyefire's DBZ RPG, came to challenge Alex's, and a heated rivalry soon followed. The rivalry between the two sites lead to constant improvements by each site in an attempt to one-up the other. These improvements helped to make Alex's what it is today. After about six months, Skyefire's was forced to shut down when its owner, Cloud Skyrender, was enveloped in scandal. Many former members turned to Alexs. ADBZRPG went on to run for over two years successfully. At its peak, the RPG had over sixty active members on its roster. Ultimately, ADBZRPG shut down to update its system and "start over". Version 1.0 was best known for its lengthy and detailed unique sagas.

Alex's DBZ RPG Version 2.0 was updated version that was released a few months after the discontinuance of the original. It offered an expanded universe with inter-planetary location and traveling. 2.0 also used a very mathematical based battling system similar to that of a Final Fantasy game. This RPG was open for only eight months before its closure. The revolution of online RPGs was changed from play-by-email to play-by-post and ADBZRPG retooled to fit this change.

Alex's DBZ RPG Version 3.0 was released in late 2004. This version was more heavily reliant upon roleplaying, or writing stories based on your character, than its predecessor. It was hacked only three months after its opening. This led it to an early closure.

Alex's DBZ RPG Version 4.0 was scheduled to open in 2005. It never was completed, however, and was replaced by another project.

Alex's DBZ RPG Version 5.3.3 is the most current rendition of the RPG.
