History
The corporation started operations in 1912 in Boston, MA as the Massachusetts Employees insurance Association. In 1914, it opened is first branch office in Springfield, MA and started offering auto insurance. The name was later changed to Liberty Mutual in the year 1917 after which the company also offered public liability insurance and complete auto insurance in partnership with the United Mutual Fire Insurance Company (later known as Liberty Mutual Fire Insurance). It began advertising in 1919.
