The company has produced nearly 12 billion in sales mostly due to military contracts. It tried to purchase Newport New Shipbuilding but was prevented by regulators as it would make GD the largest producer of nuclear subs in the U.S. It also attempted to buy UK based AK Vickers but was out bid by BAE Systems.
