Surrounded on all sides by rich, agricultural land, Culcheth is a dormitory village, having no significant industry or manufacturing to speak of, but being home to many of the workers at the nearby Science Park and the Birchwood Industrial Estates, and local shopping centre for the adjacent villages of Croft, Kenyon, Glazebury, Risley, and Glazebrook.
