Crabgrass.Riseup.net is a set of communication tools designed for grassroots organizing. The project is the creation of Riseup.net, a Seattle-based collective that provides communication and computer resources to people engaged in "struggles against capitalism and other forms of oppression." Written in Ruby on Rails, the people behind Crabgrass bills it as "a secure alternative to for-profit social networking and organizing platforms."
Crabgrass includes private wikis, task lists, a file repository and decision-making tools. The Crabgrass developers say they are overhauling the user interface and creating better social networking tools, blogs, and event calendars, as well as better support for collaboration and decision-making among independent groups.
