About the Author
Jonathan Dorf has had his plays produced in more than thirty states, as well as in Canada, Europe and Asia. He has been a finalist for the Actors Theatre of Louisville Heideman Award and has worked with such companies as the Walnut Street Theatre, Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey, Ensemble Studio Theatre - LA, Moving Arts and the Pittsburgh New Works Festival. His plays are published by Brooklyn Publishers, Eldridge Publishing and Playscripts, Inc., and his monologues appear in collections by Meriwether and Smith & Kraus.
He is the resident playwriting expert for Final Draft (for whom he created the playwriting "Ask the Expert" in the latest release, FD 7) and The Writers Store (creator of Playwriting101.com and playwriting instructor at Writers University), the co-chair of the Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights and the former managing director of the Philadelphia Dramatists Center. He is also a member of the Dramatists Guild of America and the Los Angeles-based Ariadne Group, and serves as a consultant for writers across the country.
Dorf has been working with young writers for more than a decade. He headed the drama program at Philadelphia's prestigious Haverford School, where his students won young playwrights competitions as far away as Los Angeles and the United Kingdom. He served as a mentor in the Philadelphia Young Playwrights program, and later spent three years as playwright-in-residence at the Choate Rosemary Hall Summer Arts Conservatory, developing new scripts for their young company members and teaching playwriting. Dorf has been a guest artist at more than a dozen schools and youth theatres through the United States, as well as in the United Kingdom. He holds a BA in Dramatic Writing and Literature from Harvard University and an MFA in Playwriting from UCLA.
