Red and Blue NET was conceived in early November 1998. Webmaster at the time, Will Thornton, set out to provide a comprehensive guide to York City FC on the internet in early October of that year by launching York City FC Online but as the site gradually began to look more professional, the site was renamed and popularity grew thanks to publicity from the Yorkshire Evening Press.
