Description
Rodney Yee is the co-director of the Piedmont Yoga Studio in Oakland, California. The studio was founded in 1987. Rodney was a ballet dancer with the Oakland Ballet Company and the Matsuyama Ballet Company of Tokyo. He studied philosophy and physical therapy at the University of California Davis and Berkeley. He immediately took to yoga as he found it combined the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of his life.
Rodney has mainly studied in the Iyengar vein but in recent years relies strongly on his own practice and intuition to influence his teaching. His core group of friends, everyday students and family are also resources for a bounty of insights. His strengths are his communication skills, his sequencing and his ability to break down postures into their essential elements.
Rodney is featured in over twenty yoga videos and DVDs produced by Gaiam, Inc. and Yoga Journal magazine. He has appeared in the 1991, 1993, 2001 and 2003 Yoga Journal calendars and contributed to many articles on yoga. He teaches workshops and retreats world-wide and leads teacher training intensives nationally. He also directs the 18-month yoga teacher training program at the Piedmont Yoga Studio.
