Originally set up in 1912, the YBDSA has enlarged and enhanced its operations steadily since then. As the name implies, our members offer a variety of professional services within the marine industry. They are assessed before being admitted into membership, and are qualified variously by academic achievement and experience "in the field".
The Association also runs courses and seminars from time to time to help members keep up their knowledge of new technologies, laws, etc. All members are required to carry Professional Indemnity Insurance and to maintain their training.
Members of the YBDSA provide essential services to both commercial boat operators and the boating public, from helping with boat purchase, through registration, to coding and certifying a vessel for commercial use. The members are divided into two separate groups, the Association of Brokers and Yacht Agents (ABYA) and the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association (YDSA). The YBDSA also operates the Professional Charter Association.
