Description
Yaxhá Orchids is dedicated to the preservation of nature in Guatemala and to the culture and propagation of native orchid species. Our main objective is the propagation of guatemalan orchids that are threatened, rare or endemic to the country, limited in their distribution, miniatures and species whose natural habitat is in danger. The selection and propagation of orchid species that have unique features like fragrance, color and shapes, interesting for commercial purposes, as well as exotic species and hybrids, is one of our activities as well.
Our mision is to propagate orchids through sexual and asexual methods for a sustainable production in order to make orchids available to the profesionals and amateurs in orchid culture, therefore we contribute to the preservation of guatemalan orchid species and we contribute to reduce the pressure of collecting from the wild.
Yaxhá Orchids was founded in 2002 after the well gained experience on culture and propagation of orchids from the original collection, now certified for commercial purposes. Yaxhá Orchids was named after the Yaxhá Private Natural Reserve run by the company. The Yaxhá Reserve is located in Petén, Guatemala as a part of the Yaxhá Nakun Naranjo National Park, and is home of a wide diversity of species in a unique habitat. The Reserve is specially dedicated to the protection of the jaguar, migratory birds, the moreletti crocodile, and the tapir through special research and development projects.
