About us
Economic Empowerment for Women (EEW) is a non-profit organization established in 1997 by a group of activists in the Haifa area who have been involved for the past two decades in women's organizations, especially “Isha L'Isha”, the Haifa Feminist Center.
Our mission is to raise the socio-economic status of women in Israel by way of assisting women in achieving economic independence through the creation of small businesses. We also promote legislation and advance public policy changes to better suit the needs of diverse women groups. We operate within a feminist framework, and give priority to supporting vulnerable groups in the Israeli society.
EEW’s chosen strategy is assisting women in opening their own small businesses, based on their own talents and abilities. This strategy has been applied in other countries for the past thirty years. International aid organizations, the UN, the World Bank, and government and community institutions around the world consider it to be one of the most effective strategies for combating poverty today.
