The aim of Wikitopo is to build a free online collection of rock climbing and mountaineering topo guides. As the name suggests, this site allows visitors to create and edit its contents.
The creators Wikitopo believe there is an obvious place for a an image based wiki-style climbing website. There are a lot of great climbing web sites out there with UKC and Summit Post being among the most popular. Recently a number of wiki sites have appeared, sharing the latest up to date info through on-line collaboration - notably the Gogarth Wiki hosted by wetpaint.com. These however are essentially text based. What Wikitopo brings to this mix is on-line collaborative topo editing and image based information sharing.
A picture may not always be worth a thousand words, but it does sometimes make routes easier to follow!
