Women In Business - WIB - began very informally in late-1974, as an outgrowth of a UCLA Extension Workshop, entitled "Women, Work and Power." Businesswomen continued to meet at one another's homes to begin a phenomenon-which would soon become known as "networking."
A second UCLA workshop was held in September, 1975, and the number of women wanting to share in the network grew so rapidly that WIB held its first organized luncheon the next month. While 35 invitations were sent to those who might be interested, more than 80 women, prominent in the business community, attended.
WIB was incorporated as a not-for-profit business league in 1976-an organized forum of economic and emotional support for successful businesswomen.
