Back in 1928 your great-great-grandmother did her laundry with wash tubs and scrub boards. She had to heat the wash water and hand ring out the rinse water before lugging it all out to the clothesline to dry. If she was lucky and lived in Winter Park, Florida, she could take advantage of a new service from Acme Laundry. Her Acme route man would pick up the dirty laundry and deliver it back the next morning washed, rinsed and ready to hang dry. What a convenience! From that very beginning, Acme’s commitment to customer convenience would grow into a trademark and tradition to span more than seven decades.
In the 1930s, Acme moved a few miles to downtown Orlando and soon become the city’s foremost drycleaner. A fleet of six Acme Cleaners delivery trucks served the entire Central Florida area.
In 1946 Judson Dwight Peck joined the Acme team along with my uncle, Ernest Parham. J.D. Peck was truly a master cleaner whose knowledge of natural fabrics and fibers was second to no one I have ever met.
