The Humanities Council of Washington, D.C. is an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). HCWDC is a private, nonprofit organization that funds and conducts humanities-based cultural and educational programs for Washingtonians in every ward. It is not a Federal or a District agency. HCWDC is governed by a 23-member volunteer board, five of whom are appointed by the Mayor, and has a small staff .
