About me
My name is Andy, I'm 45, and after 29 years in the washing machine repair trade I finally accepted there was no future in repairs for me. The washing machine repair trade has been in decline for at least 20 years and is dying a very slow death. Most people I knew in the trade had either gone bust, had given up and got out, or were hanging on with their fingernails. Cheap new washing machines (although rubbish) can be bought for less than £200. Few people are prepared to spend money repairing them, and the whole world seems geared up to mass producing new products at prices so cheap, that many every-day repairs just aren't economically viable if you have to pay a professional.
Why did I create Washerhelp?
Deciding my experience wasn't going to be wasted, and always being interested in creative hobbies such as writing music, stories, poems, designing board games, video, photography etc. I taught myself web design and decided to create the best washing machine site that I could, and to help as many people as possible. Washerhelp has become possibly the most prominent UK washing machine site on the Internet.
My washing machine experience
I've gained experience of most aspects of washing machines during my 29 years in the washing machine trade. Apprentice trained in a workshop by a large Hoover agent (Wigfalls), out on the road aged 19 and self employed at 22. I've worked as a manufacturer's service engineer, an authorised repair dealer service engineer, as a self employed sole trader, and as a partner in an independent company selling spare parts, washing machines and carrying out repairs.
