Title
VNE - 8 Way Formation Sykdiving Team
Description
To make British 8 Way Formation Skydiving a major player at world level. To be the best amateur team in the world.
A team of eight skydivers and a team camera flyer exit the aircraft from 13,000 feet above a drop zone. The clock starts as the first person lets go of the aircraft. Falling through the air at around 120mph the team have 50 seconds of free fall time to repeat a randomly drawn sequence of formations as many times as possible before separating and opening their parachutes at a safe altitude. The camera flyer must capture each formation on video to prove to the judges that the formations were correctly executed. Each correctly completed formation scores one point. After ten rounds the team with the highest score wins.
The current team came about as a result of the disbanding of the previous 8 Way FS National team (Junction 9), after the 1999 World Championships in Australia. Three members of that team (Andy Pook, Darren Birkin and Martin Soulsby) wanted to continue where the old team had left off. At the time Junction 9 were the highest scoring 8 Way FS team that the UK had produced. In order to improve on this performance the new team would have to draw on experienced competitors from other teams and come up with a training plan that would enable them to beat the current benchmark set by Junction 9.
