Tucker Farms Aviaries
Description
Our Aviary
Our breeder birds are kept indoors in large flights. Buildings are heated in the winter because I don't think the birds are comfortable when the temperature falls below 55? Fahrenheit. I know they can survive lower temperatures, but I doubt they are comfortable. Amazons especially, look miserable when it's cold. Our buildings have screened windows so they can see outdoors. Our breeders have toys and fresh foods daily.
Every bird that enters our facility comes in through quarantine. During quarantine each bird is tested for polyoma, psittacosis, PBFD, TB and is examined for pappiloma and parasites. Each bird has a complete physical exam and an avian chemistry panel including CBC. After a minimum 45 day quarantine period, new birds may be introduced into our aviary. This ensures that our aviary remains free of all problems.
Our Philosophy
Nature has a strict policy, fly or die, and birds know this instinctively. We allow our babies to fly until thoroughly weaned. Through experience we've learned that clipping wings before they master flight has a lifelong detrimental effect on their personality, making them more prone to screaming and feather plucking. None of our babies (over 500 psittacines) have ever become screamers or pluckers. We attribute this to:
