Visual Climate - Welcome!

Description

Ruth has extensive academic and professional experience in usability and user interaction design. Ruth received her PhD from Stanford University where she conducted research at both the Stanford School of Education and the Knowledge Systems Laboratory in the Computer Science Department. She studied the areas of social and cognitive development, human-computer interaction, and human learning systems. Her research exposed her to how people think and learn, and how technology can be used to foster learning.

After graduating from Stanford, Ruth joined Extempo as Director of the Usability and Interaction Design group. At Extempo, Ruth took on the challenge of developing web site characters that use artificial intelligence and animation to guide and converse with consumers. Ruth also co-authored a $3 million grant from National Institute of Science and Technology Advance Technology Program to create web-based interfaces that pushed the boundaries of current designs and practices.

Prior to co-founding Visual Climate, Ruth was VP of Usability and UI Design at WorldRes.com, where she cultivated a team of talented and motivated interface designers and developers. At WorldRes, she produced numerous designs for consumer and enterprise web-based applications for the travel and leisure sectors. The designs required an in-depth knowledge of business logic and user profiles. She contributed to the WorldRes product vision by proposing and implementing competitive functionality in the products, and by defining UI and visual standards into the product designs. Ruth is currently a professor in the School of Communications and the Communications and Information Sciences doctoral program at the University of Hawaii.
