- Virtual reality gaming is an immersive gaming experience that engages user sight, sound, and touch in three dimensions. Virtual reality is a computer-simulated ecology with which one or more humans can engage with items in three dimensions while engaging vision, sound, and (to a lesser extent) handle and locomotion. The sense of realism in such an environment increases with: (1) heightened scope and volume of human sensory bandwidth engaged in the human-computer interaction (e.g. degree of subject of vision, resolution of visual images, fidelity of sonic interaction, number and extent of body members engaged in locomotor and feeling interaction); and (2) improved swiftness and intelligence of the human-computer interaction, especially as the behavior of computer-generated elements more closely conforms to the material and different laws that govern their real-world counterparts. Exceptions to the latter arise for fantasy world applications, but even in those usages the divergence from real-world behavior must be managed to construct a sufficient sense of reality for the human to be meaningfully engaged. If the environment is too bizarre, then important interaction fails.
