Virtuquest is a company that specialized in Alternate Reality Games/Marketing for several well known online activities. Virtuquest created the online world of THX-1138 (George Lucas's first movie) to publisize the release of the anniversary edition THX-1138 DVD. In the online world you got to play a roll in overtaking OHM the controlling computer/society pressures of thte THX world through the eyes of SEN-5241, another character in the THX world.
Virtuquest also created an online Alternate Reality for the 1970's show Logan's Run called City of Domes. This online adventure/game had several hundred players from around the world participate, but due to budget/contract problems with an unknown financial partner, the game was cut off mid-game much to the disappointment of many players and Sci-Fi fans. The City of Domes is still archived on Virtuquest's website with a login to experience the Logan's Run world.
Virtuqest has also ran several ARG (Alternate Reality Games) for private clients and business's in which outsiders where allowed minimum access to certain parts of the game. These include Corporate Edition 5.0,and their first ARG simply called GO.
The last large ARG by Virtuquest was called Township Heights which actually was a pay to play game. (Cost for registration was $5) It was billed as a beginner ARG and a "Short Run Online Experience" in which participants won prizes within the game such as T-Shirts and actual money. Some player where dissatisfied with the short duration of the game, but Virtuquest defended the duration saying "It was advertised as a short run ARG of 20 - 30 days depending on participants gameplay targeting beginner ARG players". The game winner received a cash prize and many participants especially new players of ARGs enjoyed the experience.
Virtuquest also developed the "VirtuCube" which was a 6 sided online cube puzzle. Each side had a different and very difficult puzzle to solve and players from around the world took 10 months to solve. The winner was awarded $500.00.
