This website has been set up with the purpose of fostering a wider understanding of the viola d'amore and its repertoire. At this site you may see pictures of the instrument, read brief descriptions of its properties and history, and, most importantly, hear and download CD quality audio examples of the sound of the instrument, while simultaneously viewing facsimiles of the 18th-century manuscript sources of the movements being played. This site is offered with the understanding that the music downloaded is for personal or educational use only, and is not to be reproduced for profit. Furthermore, the information contained herein is the best I was able to assemble, but I am sure there is more to learn about this beautiful but complicated instrument."
This site has been reworked to help musicians overcome two of the big stumbling blocks to the wider use of the viola d'amore, finding instruments, and obtaining viola d'amore music together with the knowledge needed to decipher it. We now have three interactive boards that you invited to use to help further the understanding of the viola d'amore. On the message board you may post questions about the history and repertoire of the d'amore, comments about particular pieces of music for viola d'amore, or place instrument wanted or for sale signs. You may upload relevant links to the links board, and lastly, on the events board, you may let the world of the viola d'amore know about performances, broadcasts and other events that are related to the objectives of this site.
