The Village of Barrington Hills was incorporated on February 23, 1957. A Village Marshall was appointed and was responsible for law enforcement between 1957 and 1960. The Barrington Hills Police Department was formed in conjunction with the Village of Barrington in 1960.
Originally, all police activities in Barrington Hills were coordinated under the direction of Barrington Police Chief Reynold Smith, who later became the first Police Chief of Barrington Hills. Plans for a new Village Hall were approved in 1974, and less than a year later, the Police Department established operations in the current building.
The Barrington Hills Police Department has 19 Sworn Officers and 8 Civilian employees. Sworn personnel include: Chief of Police, 3 Lieutenants, 4 Sergeants, and 11 Patrol Officers. Civilian members include: 1 Administrative Assistant, 1 Communications/Records Supervisor, and 6 Police Assistants.
