SEO involves making changes to your website in order to achieve better rankings in what are called a search engine's "natural" or "organic" search results. These results are produced by algorithms that are kept secret by search engines (such as Google and Yahoo) and achieving positive results takes experience, staying current with trends, and a bit of trial and error. Due to the nature of SEO you can expect to wait 1-3 months to see results, although sometimes results can be almost immediate.
A: Companies and individuals will define the term "search engine optimization" or "SEO" in different ways. For MWI's purposes, we define SEO as "all activities performed with the intent of increasing the rank of a website in search engines for a given keyword or combination of keywords." However it does not end with rankings; our ultimate goal is to increase your profits.
A: SEO as a whole is not the simple process it used to be, although there are many things an individual or firm can do on their own (see link to Search Engine Optimization Tips on the left). A few years ago (decades in Internet time) all a webmaster had to do to get good rankings in Google or Yahoo was add meta tag data at the top of the code of the webpage such as keywords and description tags. Today, the Internet is more competitive and search engine algorithms have evolved to recognize "spammed" web pages that pack many words into meta tags or include large blocks of text that show up to search engines but are hidden from human eyes.
