Description
After Pearl Harbor, the American Asiatic Fleet and a smattering of Allied Fleets in the Western Pacific were left as sacrificial pawns to slow the Japanese Advance toward Australia. They would have no help. The American Fleet at Pearl Harbor was out of action. The flagship for the US Asiatic Fleet was the USS Houston. It and 21 other American ships and an almost equal number of allied fleets paid the ultimate sacrifice in the three grueling months after the December 7 call to arms. But that is not all. A few sailors survived to become slave labor on the Death Railway (The Bridge on The River Kwai). This site helps to explain what this part of WWII was all about.
