- he USCTTA encourages, promotes, and facilitates organized Classic Table Tennis events within the United States of America. We use the term Classic Table Tennis to describe the type of style that the great players of the 1930s to the 1950s played, using wood paddles covered with pimpled rubber. These paddles are now referred to as Hardbats, to distinguish them from to the modern paddles that use sponge rubber underneath the pimpled rubber, which is usually glued to the sponge rubber with the pimples facing the sponge.
