The Irish Song Association is comprised of people who served in USS O'Callahan DE-1051 / FF-1051. The ship was home-ported out of San Diego and served several tours in Vietnam with extensive Pacific duty in the years afterward. The slick shape earned her the name of Pig Sticker like the knife, and she was the last of the 10 Garcia class of DE's built by the Defoe shipbuilding company. The Brooke Class followed in form, but were fitted at DEG's. The ship was involved in Linebacker II and in major shore battery/ bombardment action at the DMZ at the close of the Vietnam war. The last American hostile rounds of the Vietnam war were fired from the task force of ships at Point Allison. the last round itself was fired by the USS Turner Joy.
