- In 1962, Joe Grider took a home school course to learn the upholstery trade and became a certified upholsterer. Joe began teaching his upholstery techniques to his son Eddie at the age of 12. Joe did upholstery out of his garage until he passed away in 1995. Shortly after Joe’s passing, Eddie resumed the trade and began to upholster out of his garage as an extra source of income. In 1998, Eddie Sr. taught the trade to his son, Eddie Jr. In November of 1999, both Eddie Sr. and Jr. decided to open the first Upholstery For Less (UFL) at 225 Midland Avenue in Lexington, Kentucky as a partnership. In March 2000, UFL relocated to 212 Industry Parkway in Nicholasville, Kentucky where Grider Enterprises Inc. was founded by Eddie Sr. and Jr.
