Description
Unity is a worldwide Christian movement founded by Charles and Myrtle Fillmore in the late 1800's. Because of a similarity in names, Unity has been confused with other churches; however, there is no connection between Unity, Unitarian or the Unification Church. Unity proclaims the divinity of Jesus Christ, but goes further in assuring us that we too are children of God, and therefore, divine in nature. Jesus expressed his divine potential and demonstrated a high expression of divinity or Christhood. We have that same potential and divine template with us.
Unity's foundation is affirmative prayer. Unity's founders based their teachings exclusively on the study of the Bible. Clearly, Unity is a Christian religion in that it is based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Unity believes the search for Truth is as much a part of Truth as finding it. Our one cardinal teaching is that the true Spirit of God, to which we all should turn and listen, is within us.
Unity does not teach that the Unity way, or the Christian way, is the ONLY pathway to God. There is Truth to be found in all the world Religions.
