Ed decided to start Tunesource LLC after spending many hours traveling from record shop to record shop, trying to place CDs on consignment. The person he needed to talk with was often unavailable and follow up phone calls wasted even more time. When considering automobile expenses and hours consumed, the effort was not economically feasible. Even, after successfully selling CDs locally in a store with locations throughout the United States, his CDs were not accepted at the affiliated store in a nearby town because the music was not by a local artist.
He realized his musician friends were going through the same exercise, and that there must be literally hundreds of independent recording artists driving around with boxes of CDs or tapes in the trunks of their cars.
Through Tunesource LLC, an Internet music consignment shop, he could solve all of those problems. Specializing in the music he enjoyed, he would offer to carry CDs and tapes of independent artists. In addition, he would set up a home page for each artist with a biography, photos and performance schedule. Essentially all communication would be by e-mail, and sales statements would be generated at approximately six month intervals.
