- In Summer 2006 we finally moved into our smallholding, after spending 2 years planning and trying to find a place that matched most of our extensive list of essential assets. We learnt a lot in that 2 years. Mainly that a good plan and clear written list of needs is essential, many properties were crossed of our list before visiting, just by driving past and viewing the land and area. Finally we found Northfield House, with enough level, flattish, fertile land to keep all our animals and grow our own food, quiet, no road noise and a large enough house and outbuildings for all our needs. What we missed was a flowing river for aesthetics and woodlands for fuel.
