Movement for the Truth and Reconciliation in Greece
Description
Excerpted from the website:
- The Greek Civil War has been a very traumatic event for Greece and for its people as a nation. It took place in the late 1940s, (but its origins go back, in the begin of the century and in the First World War), and its aftermath was marked by the clearance from the rural areas (mainly villages) of those involved in the resistance, along with their families.
Clearance of the rural areas meant that those involved in the resistance faced either death, imprisonment in a concentration camp in the Aegean sea or exile mainly in Eastern European countries and in Russia (but also in other countries).
For those, of their immediate families who had been trapped and had no other choice but to remain in Greece after the end of the war (because mainly they did not have other people to help them to go abroad or they did not anticipate what was going to happen to them), they had to face the effect of the files that a part of the establishment of the Greek state would keep on them, and on their descendants.
This involved their ostracizing and exclusion from any part of the society (personal, professional and social)............
