- As we came to Guanacaste, Costa Rica back in 1993, everything seemed to be like a typical, adorable “banana republic” to us. Starting a live or even a business here could be and was a real adventure. There lived only a handful of people in Esterones de Samara and the road from Nicoya just had been finished a few years ago. Before this area got connected to the rest of the world by this road, supplies for the locals were carried and brought by boats or horses.
