Description
Two sections, The Age of Simulation and Simulation & Postmodern Society, reveal the way fakes, imitations and illusions, as well as invented "worlds," now dominate popular culture. "The Age of Simulation" provides accessible essays on the subject while "Simulation & Postmodern Society" offers longer pieces that collect what is said about simulation from around the site.
Five sections use text and image-captures to describe the way contemporary forms of fiction, especially movies and television, reveal and disguise the inner reaches of the mind. These sections are part of a larger work, titled The Landscape of Fiction. They examine Situation Comedies and Post-Apocalyptic Fiction. There is also a section of miscellaneous essays on movies and television and one on theory. A fifth section, on "Freudian Gothic", is partly up, as well.
Two sections look at how the nonfiction (news) media controls information in an effort to control audiences. Media Criticism provides overviews and introductions on this subject, some collected from other parts of the site, and is a good starting point for anyone interested in exploring these ideas. Image and Action: Deconstructing the News is a more detailed work that describes the way the news media represents and misrepresents society, and uses images and story lines to shape public opinion.
