Our servers are co-located at data center using a Cisco powered network with OC-12, OC-3 and DS-3 connections to multiple backbones provided by Intermedia, Qwest, SAVVIS, SBC Communications, Time Warner Telecom & UUnet.
Data backup is done in real time using RAID 1 hard drive mirroring. Basically every time you create a file, a duplicate is copied to another drive that is an exact copy of the main drive. That way if the primary hard drive fails, the secondary drive will immediately take over until the defective drive is replaced.
In general it's always a good idea the you backup your site to your local machine regardless of any server-side backup.
