Tonic Brass - Music for Boulder, Denver, and greater Colorado
Description
Meet Tonic Brass
Tonic Brass was founded in 2001 with the goal of providing interesting brass music to the public. A formerly regularly rehearsing group, Tonic Brass frequently performed public concerts and public school outreach, playing a widely varied repertoire that encompassed standard brass literature, transcriptions of baroque and renaissance music, original pieces, and jazz. Tonic Brass collaborated with a variety of artists, from vocalists to composers to jazz artists.
Members of Tonic Brass have wide-ranging musical backgrounds. Regionally, members regularly performed with the Colorado Symphony, the Colorado Music Festival, the Boulder Philharmonic, the Cheyenne Symphony, MahlerFest, and Boulder's Dinner Theatre. Performances outside of Colorado include the New Mexico Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony Brass Quintet, the Tucson Symphony and the Grand Teton Festival Orchestra. In addition to their classical skills, players from Tonic Brass play regularly with the Montgomery-Olstad Jazz Orchestra and the VSO Jazz Orchestra; salsa bands Cojunto Colores, Kizumba, and La Candela; and numerous small jazz groups. All of Tonic Brass hold bachelor or masters degrees in music, from schools ranging from the University of Colorado to Manhattan School of Music to Northwestern University
In addition to performing with Tonic Brass, Alex Heitlinger performs regularly as the principal trombonist of the Cheyenne Symphony, 3rd trombonist of the Bob Montgomery-Peter Olstad Big Band, and the trombonist of La Candela, a Boulder-based salsa band. In addition, Alex is an active freelance musician and private teacher. Performing credits include the Boulder Brass, Denver Municipal Jazz Band, Neophonic Jazz Orchestra, VSO Jazz Orchestra, Conjunto Colores, Tucson Symphony, Tucson Pops, and the Tucson Jazz Orchestra. Alex was formerly the principal trombonist of the Philharmonia Orchestra of Tucson and performed with this group in New York's famed Carnegie Hall. Alex recieved a Bachelor of Music in Trombone Performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder. His primary trombone teachers include Bill Stanley, Paul Naslund, and Tom Ervin. He has also studied improvisation and composition with Art Lande. Alex can be reached at 720-406-8432 or tbonealex@yahoo.com.
