- For those of you who have not heard, I (John) was in the States for two weeks at the end of November. I developed an infection in my urinary system and gradually began having weight loss, periods of weakness, and even a few stroke-type symptoms. Initially they were easy enough to hide but eventually became severe enough that I couldn’t hide them. When I found myself sitting on a low chair in our mail room talking to my daughter Jessica and slowly losing my ability to speak or control my fingers it became obvious that it was time to do something serious about the problem. Luckily I was conscious enough to ask for a couple of Cokes, with sugar. (The first “hard” Coke that I’ve had in more than 10 years since I’m a diabetic) Jodie was called and came to rescue me and get me home safely. We called my doctor in Indiana and she ran me through all the important questions and together with the answers and the lab work that I had done on my own she told me what she thought was going on. She thought that a prostate or bladder infection had started an abnormal reaction in the system that controls glucose in my body.
