Title Tags
What are title tags?
The title tags are perhaps the most important feature to consider when grooming your website for search engine ranking.
Here are suggestions for creating top title tags:
- Each page on your website should have its own title tag.
- Title tags should identify what each page of your site is about -- not describe your entire website.
- Title tags should contain important keywords or keyword phrases.
- Limit the number of characters in a title tag to 70. Google will only recognize 70 characters or less in a search result.
- Craft a title tag from a combination of carefully selected keywords and your company name.
- Use hyphens or vertical bars to separate sections of your title tag.
As an example: Amplifiers and Cords - Guitars R Us, or Amplifiers and Chords | Guitars R Us
If your brand is familiar to consumers, you may get more clicks by showing your company's name in the title tag first, followed by keywords. If your company is not widely-known, it is helpful to list your keywords first, then follow with your company's name. This will get your audience's attention!
