Tiffany Lamps - Stained Glass Lamps - Tiffany Style Lamps

Description

Louis Comfort Tiffany was born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lewis Tiffany of New York City in 1848. As the oldest son, he was expected to take the reins of his father’s legendary jewelry business, but instead he followed his heart and became an artist. Below is his painting On the Way Between Old and New Cairo, Citadel Mosque of Mohammed Ali and the Tombs of the Mamelukes (c.1872).

Tiffany’s success was the result of many things. He was born into wealth, and was surrounded by great beauty his entire life. This wealth also provided a ticket to the world, where he studied with many of the great artists of his era. He was brought up with a strong sense of commerce, so he always had a head for business, which would come into play later in his life.

Tiffany also had a natural artistic sense, which exhibited itself in every artistic endeavor he undertook. Perhaps most fortuitously, though, he possessed a sense of adventure and innovation that led him to experiment with new and unique ways of attaining his dreams. This spirit of innovation brought about new glass production techniques and his development of the copper-foil method of stained glass construction, commonly referred to as the Tiffany method.
