VOLUNTEER TO ASSIST WITH A TIBET AID BOOK DRIVE!
Tibet Aid is seeking volunteers to help us collect donations of used textbooks that might otherwise be discarded on college and high school campuses throughout the US and Canada. Our book drives are normally conducted at the same time as the buyback of books that students and faculty can no longer sell back to their campus bookstores. Running a drive is easy and a wonderful way to protect the environment while raising funds for the Tibetan people.
Tibet Aid works with a family-owned and run company, Book Drives, Inc. to conduct our book drives. Book Drives, Inc. provides all the materials necessary to conduct a successful book drive, including collection and shipping boxes, posters, and prepaid mailing labels (Book Drives, Inc. pays for all shipping expenses to their warehouse).
We ask volunteers to staff a table during the drive, if possible, in order to increase the visibility of the drive and to educate other students about the challenges facing the Tibetan people. Volunteers can answer questions and give out Tibet Aid’s brochures to those who want to more information about ways to help. Volunteers generally need to empty collection boxes at the end of each day during the buyback, pack the books into shipping boxes, and locate a place to keep the boxes until the end of the drive. Often, staff from the bookstore assist with collecting the books and storing the boxes.
When Book Drives, Inc. receives the books donated during the drive, they process them for immediate resale. Books that cannot be sold are donated to Tibetan refugee schools or recycled. No books go into landfills for any reason. Book Drives, Inc. also plants a tree in an area facing severe deforestation for every textbook sold. Over 50,000 trees have already been planted by Book Drives, Inc. This makes Book Drives, Inc. a very carbon-friendly company.
Running a book drive is a great way to fulfill a volunteer requirement and an excellent way to help Tibetans who are in need of educational and medical assistance.
