Description
Thrifty Glass started in 1987 doing windshield repairs, using repair tools with screw injectors, however it was often difficult to do satisfactory repairs with them, so we decided to built a repair tool to our own specifications from scratch. We realized that in order to get the resin into the damage, lots of pressure was needed which required a perfect seal with the glass to hold this pressure without spilling the resin. We found this on the market in the form of a pencil sharpener device being used for years in offices. It was also noted that the high pressure needed to force the resin into the damages could not be obtained using screw injectors as the maximum size damages that could be repaired was often limited to the size of a nickel or quarter depending on the type of damage or the system selected. This meant that damages larger than that had to be passed up for repair when called in or once we got to a jobsite. So we redesigned the screw injector with a seal contained between the aluminum barrel and a polypropylene sleeve inside this barrel. The result was an injector which allowed for extremely high pressure to be placed on the resin without leaking it onto the windshield.
