History
The Sperm Bank of California (TSBC) began operations on October 5, 1982 in Oakland, California. We began as a project of the Oakland Feminist Women's Health Center, a family planning clinic. TSBC and the clinic shared facilities until 1988, when TSBC split off to incorporate as an independent nonprofit corporation and moved to a larger site in Oakland. In 1995, we moved to our present location in downtown Berkeley.
TSBC has a history of pioneering work in the field of reproductive technologies. We were the first sperm bank in the United States to:
Licensing
TSBC is registered as a reproductive tissue bank with the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) and we are in full compliance with the FDA's regulatory requirements for screening and testing donors. TSBC holds Tissue Bank and Clinical Lab licenses in California, Maryland, and New York. Our Medical Director belongs to the American Association of Tissue Banks, and members of our staff are active in the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).
