The Sign Shop

Description

Excerpted from the website:

Mark "Mick" Felder grew up in a garden apartment in Bayside, Queens where if anything was broken, they called the super. In 1971, after studying art in college, he moved to Maine where he taught himself to fix or make just about anything. He played mandolin and guitar in the bluegrass band Wild Mountain Thyme and soon got involved in woodworking, repairing musical instruments and making dulcimers. In 1978, after apprenticing for a sign shop in Augusta, he opened his own business in downtown Gardiner, specializing in carved signs. Twenty-five years and three children later, Mick remains committed to fine craftmanship and artistry - both as a signpainter and a jazz pianist. His love of design and music has been passed on to his son Malcolm. His wife, Deborah runs Maine Initiatives a fund for social change.
