In 1993, McMaster received the prestigious Liberty Award for his contributions to liberty and free markets. In 1994, Harper Collins featured McMaster in the nationally distributed best-selling book, Unconventional Wisdom, as one of "12 remarkable innovators who successfully use intuition in decision making." He is the author of 13 published books, five on investing/trading. McGraw-Hill published his latest book on investing/trading entitled, The Art of the Trade, in 1999. McMaster’s work has been cited by NBC, The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, U.S. News and World Report and Christian Life.

McMaster served as E.F. Hutton's top money manager for three years and as a personal financial advisor to the Heinz (catsup) family. He was one of only five trading advisors approved nationally by Hornblower & Weeks. He has served clients in over 40 countries. An entrepreneur with various interests, McMaster has developed cattle, llama and deer ranches, a private school, real estate projects, and distribution networks for health food products. Recreationally, he enjoys archery, biking, golf, skiing, hiking, writing poetry, exchanging jokes, and playing the piano.

McMaster, whose family settled in Texas in 1833, graduated cum laude from the University of Houston, where he was initiated into four national honor societies. He later completed his Master's studies in Business Science in Colorado. After voluntarily serving his country in the U.S. Air Force, he worked in Denver with the Trammel Crow Co., building shopping centers, office buildings, and restaurants.
