The Northern Light
Description
The mission of The Northern Light is to provide the University of Alaska Anchorage community with accurate, in-depth coverage of the events and issues that affect their lives, and to provide UAA students with real-life experience in the operation of a newsroom.
The Northern Light is a weekly University of Alaska Anchorage student publication funded by student media fees and advertising sales. Published every Tuesday during the school year and every second Tuesday during the summer, The Northern Light is distributed throughout the UAA campus and the Anchorage community. Total distribution is 5,000 copies during the spring and fall semesters and 2,000 copies during the summer semester.
The Northern Light is run solely by students. The staff is comprised of 30 writers and editors. The staff of The Northern Light is solely responsible for its contents, independent of student government, UAA's administration and the Department of Journalism and Public Communication. The Northern Light's advisors are there for guidance and continuity from year to year, but have no authority to censor or dictate newspaper content.
