Description

The Linux dot com was originally started with the purpose of providing free URL redirection without the annoying pop-up banners. At the time when there were numerous comapnies offering URL redirection, we were one of the first few who started to provide the service completely advertisement-free. As the service got more and more popular, we feel the need to expand in order to serve our members better. Since then we have added several value-added services, such as domain registration, free web-based e-mail, and web hosting.

The Linux dot com is named as such because we feel the company would not exist without Linux, a UNIX-like operating system that was initially created by Linus Torvalds. Because of Linux, individuals and small/medium companies like us are able to gain access to enterprise-quality software without a Fortune-500 IT budget. With the same spirit, it has become our goal to provide affordable Internet services to everyone around the globe. Every individual and company should be able to set up an Internet presence without having to spend a fortune.

To ensure the highest speed and reliability for today's eBusiness, all our servers are located in climate-controlled tier-1 data centers with multiple backbone connections to AT&T, UUNET, and Cable & Wireless. The data centers also have direct peering (exchange traffic) with many other providers such as AOL, Sprintlink, and Digex. All locations have their own private electrical system with generator backup.
