The Garden Barn is a garden gift shop housed in an 1886 post and beam barn. The Garden Barn is part of an acreage owned by Ed and Carol Hansen who opened the shop in 1997. In addition to the shopping opportunities, customers are also invited to stroll through the display garden that includes a large gazebo where you can sit and enjoy the garden and panoramic view of the Iowa countryside that surrounds the Garden Barn.
Ed and Carol's hope is that each person visiting feels right at home and senses the peace that comes from getting away from the hustle and bustle of traffic or the city malls. Carol's education in art and design is clearly seen in her talent in arranging creative displays blending antiques and architectural pieces with a wide array of garden and home decor. Her love for gardening comes out not only in the gardens, but also in how she features the many wreaths and botanicals that help bring the natural elements of the garden into the shop as well.
The Garden Barn's business has been blessed with numerous write up's in the Des Moines Register Newspaper. The Garden Barn products have been used for various magazine publication backdrops including...., and a cover page feature of the Hansen's home and barn was in a Christmas issue of Better Homes and Garden's.
