- The Fiber House was originally created by Cathie Wallick as an outlet for the yarn produced from herd of fine alpacas on her nearby ranch. Each animal’s yarn was custom processed to take advantage of its unique characteristic. Some fibers were best prepared as rovings for spinners and most were blended together, spun with silk, made into yarns with different plys, left in their variety of natural color or dyed. The result were beautiful and fine handling yarns that were unique and superior to mass produced yarns. The Victorian style house in the business district on the main thoroughfare of Sheridan Wyoming was extensively renovated and filled with quality antiques to hold the yarns and accessories. Local demand required the stocking of a one hundred thousand dollar inventory of other fine yarns from throughout the world. The Fiber House became the focal point and social center of the fiber arts community that congregated there for classes and project work. Of course all of the necessary yarn accessories are available such as needles and patterns along with quality spinning wheels and the accessories of that craft. Some clothing is also available. Cathie’s creative talent is expressed in the custom patterns, many of which are available as classes. Her keen eye and knowledge of the craft helps one discover and correct individual project mistakes. Quality teas are served free of charge to those working around the large project table in the living room by the fireplace. Visitors from other areas exclaim that this is the best yarn store in the country. Please come visit.
