Title
Drum and Percussion Encyclopedia, Online Store, and Musician Interviews.
Description
This website has a long, interesting history. Many years ago, I started looking around for drum and percussion information at libraries, in school books, college bookstores, museums, and just about everywhere else I thought might have something, anything to do with percussion. What I found was that most of the drums and percussion books out there were specific to a particular region of the world, or an ethnic group. So the more I wanted to learn, the more books and studying in different places I had to do. I decided at that point to develop a web site that was all-inclusive, comprehensive, user-friendly, and did not exclude or alienate any region, religion, people, tribe, classification, or instrument, as long as it was in the percussion family. I added to that idea wanting to include origin information, music classification, and as much history about the instruments that I could find. This was, and still is, a huge project for one person's hobby. After a couple of years, I was able to partner with some museums, music colleges and stores to obtain very useful information for my encyclopedia. As my site grew, my 'audience' grew. This opened up a new global presence for me. I no longer had boundaries, borders, continents, or ethnic lines drawn as barriers. I had successfully brought a global view to my site. As interest grew, I met and interviewed a lot of wonderful people in the music industry, including professional drummers, professors, clinicians, percussionists, and students. With more people viewing the site, came more emails requesting instrument information and "where can I buy this?" questions. I started looking for suppliers and importers of hand crafted instruments to sell on my site. Today I deal with many different suppliers, importers, manufacturers, and craftsmen that provide high quality, personalized instruments for purchase in my online store. Today, my staff and I continue to interview top industry musicians, teachers, professionals and percussion greats for the benefit of you, my audience. We strive to research and continually add more information to our encyclopedia, to help broaden the education level of global percussion from the beginning of history to the present. Lastly, we want to continue to provide an outlet source for you to purchase unique, hand crafted drums and percussion instruments with a global perspective. All information is welcome here, positive and negative (constructive criticism...). I hope you enjoy your time here.
