About The Booker Tea
Consider this is your invitation to join The Booker Tea Reading Group, one of Washington, D.C.'s many reading and discussion groups. The group was formed in 1997, gathering to read Booker Prize-winning fiction of the British Commonwealth. We followed in 1998 with PEN/Faulkner Award winners and finalists, in 1999 with winners of the Before Columbus Foundation's American Book Award, and in 2000 with an assortment of highly reviewed and award-winning works. For the 2001, we returned to Booker Prize winning and shortlisted titles with great results. Now in 2005, we continue to enjoy award-winning and notable literature from across the globe.
Our current reading list continues to reflect the initial commitments of this group to having demographic, geographic and thematic diversity in our readings. The works we read also continue to expose us readers to the varied political perspectives of (relatively) recent world history.
Meetings are held one Sunday afternoon each month in the homes of our members in a variety of neighborhoods in Washington, D.C. Members are expected to bring a dish, dessert, fruit, cheese or bread to share with other readers in a potluck brunch.
